A Request for Proposal for the 2016 Super States is here. Proposals must be submitted no later than Wednesday, October 14, 2015. Proposals should be submitted to Steve Morford by email attachment.

High School Freshman Simone Liao had some enjoyable experience in the 2013 SCCF Super States as a first year chess coach. She brought a team of local young players to the tournament. She "annotated" the new experience on her blog.

Effective Jan. 1, 2013 there will be two classes of scholastic memberships. The annual cost will be $13 for those who wish to receive Rank & File. The annual cost for juniors who do not wish to receive our print magazine will be $3.

James Black, Michael Brown and Bryan Hu all scored 6-1 and are co-champions in the K-9 section of the 2012 National Junior High (K-9) Championship. The event was held April 27 through 29 at Town and Country Resort in San Diego. See Randy Hough's CLO articles here and here. Complete results here.

With an undefeated score of 5½-½ Michael W. Brown won the K-12 Open section of the Southern California Scholastic SuperStates Championships held March 24 & 25 at the Hyatt in Santa Clarita. For complete individual and team standings see wall charts here or here. Pictures here.
In addition, Michael Brown and Simone Liao won invitations to the The Denker Tournament of High School Champions and Barber Tournament of K-8 Champions, respectively. Alternates are Feiyue Yang (Denker) and Craig Hilby (Barber).

With a score of 4-1, Samuel Sosa won the rated section of SLO CC's March Madness Scholastic championship held March 24 at the Pacheco Elementary school. Davis Paul won the unrated section with an undefeated score of 4½-½. 27 players participated in this annual event. For complete standings see the club's website here.

The 38th Annual Morrison Scholastic Tournament for K-12 players took place at Ladera Vista Junior High in Fullerton on February 4. The attendance was 153 composed of player in every grade. The Kindergarten section was especially well attended with ten participants from ten different schools. The gym provided an excellent venue for the lower grades with the parents in the bleachers and the kids on the covered basketball floor. The older participants were located in the multi-purpose room with the high school seniors well represented. This event was sponsored by the Fullerton Elementary School District, Fullerton Lions Club and American Chess Equipment. See final standings here. ~ Dewain Barber

2012 Denker and Barber Invitationals
The 2012 Denker and Barber Invitationals will be held during the 2012 U.S. Open in Vancouver, WA from August 4th to 7th, 2012. The Denker Tournament of High School Champions fields High School State Champions from across the United States. The Barber Tournament of K-8 Champions attracts State Champions from across the United States and the District of Columbia. Rules for the Denker and Barber events are here and here, respectively.
